#1.  New HWPOA Office Manager
As mentioned in last week's newsletter, Tom Paterson is retiring from HWPOA and I will be taking over his job as Office Manager.  I am excited to work with all of you.  I grew up in Westwood, attended Warner Ave. School, and know the Holmby Westwood area well.  I am working with Tom to ensure a smooth transition, and I want to thank him for his 15 years of service with HWPOA.  If you need to contact me, I will be taking over Tom's email address hwpoa@aol.com and the HWPOA phone number (310) 470-1785.  I'm happy to be here!
Regards,
Dana Glenn

#2.  Loud Music Complaints - Follow Up
Last week, a number of residents reported very loud music on the night of July 15.  In our investigation, we received a report from a resident that the noise was coming from the Playboy Mansion, and that the streets surrounding the mansion were clogged with tour buses, limos, security, etc.  HWPOA is contacting Playboy to address the complaints and find out more about the event.
In addition, it has been reported that Target had an outdoor event last Monday night, and we are investigating that as well.
#3.  Lindbrook/Hilgard Construction
A resident recently expressed concern regarding the long-delayed construction project at Lindbrook and Hilgard, which has adversely affected the northbound traffic lanes on Hilgard.  This project now has all the necessary permits to resume construction, and the project should be moving forward.
#4.  Crime Update from WLAPD
We received the following report from Chris Ragsdale, WLAPD Senior Lead Officer:

COMMUNITY ALERT!
There has been a series of Residential Burglaries developing in the West Los Angeles Area. The suspects typically will knock or ring the doorbell to verify if the resident is home. When there is no answer the suspects enter the side or rear of the residence and force entry by smashing the window or door glass to gain entry. Suspects are targeting the master bed and bath areas of the home and removing Jewelry and small electronics.
· ALARMS: Ensure that security alarms are in good working order and set when not at home whether leaving for 10 minutes or 10 hours.
· ALARM RESPONSE: Consider a private patrol alarm response to enhance your current alarm and security system. In many cases private patrols are already contracted in many neighborhoods or associations.
· SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS: Web based surveillance camera systems will allow homeowners to view and monitor activity from any smartphone or computer which are motion sensor activated and will alert your device when there is activity. They also lend valuable information and clues to the investigation.
· GATES: Ensure that all gates and access points to the side or rear of the residence are locked and secured.
· DOOR AND WINDOW LOCKS: Ensure that all doors and windows are locked and secured with sturdy secured locks and that there are second locking mechanisms securing all doors and windows as a second line of defense.
· MAKE IT LOOK LIKE YOU'RE HOME…Even when you're not.
· NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH: Monitor suspicious activities in your neighborhood and alert your neighbors. Should the activity escalate to a crime about to occur, crime in progress or crime that just occurred, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY!

#5.  HWPOA Communication and Ad Policy
Please direct all comments, questions or issues  regarding the HOLMBY NEWS to hwpoa@aol.com and not to the holmbywestwood's Yahoo address.
Residents have complained about too many HWPOA emails during the week so I, as Moderator, try to limit HWPOA messages during the week, ads in particular, to posting in the weekly NEWS.  Emergency type situations such as coyote sightings, lost and found pets, traffic alerts and similar emergency type situations will continue to be published during the week as received.
This policy will be published each week preceding the Resident Ads section of the HOLMBY NEWS as a reminder of the policy, how to place the ads and why the policy was established.  There is always an exception considered if needed for an emergency type ad situation.
When placing an ad, please send to hwpoa@aol.com for the HOLMBY NEWS Moderator to review.  The receipt of the ad will be confirmed.  Responses to ads should be directed to the ad placer, not to HWPOA.  Do not respond to the holmbywestwood Yahoo email address.  Ads will be run in the next HOLMBY NEWS via our Yahoo group.
Thank you,
Dana, the HOLMBY NEWS moderator/editor

DO YOU NEED A CAREGIVER?
We have a fabulous person who is a warm and loving man.  He has had many years of experience caring for our family member.  He is kind, caring responsible, and trust worthy.  Email Zaslowzoo@gmail.com for further info.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A DOG SITTER OR BOARDING FACILITY
Can anyone recommend a caring reliable dog sitter with excellent recommendations to care for our beloved well behaved small dog in their home for 2 weeks? Responsibilities would include walking her twice daily, feeding her, brushing her and playing with her.  Excellent recommendations required. We would also consider a local  boarding facility which segregates small dogs and does not cage them. Please contact Kate at 310-487-3498 or kaobrien@reedsmith.com . Thank you!
