LITTLE HOLMBY HOME OF THE MONTH
10431 WYTON DR. AS IT APPEARS TODAY
What: W.F. Ruck designed traditional residence
Where: 10431 Wyton Drive
HISTORY: In 1936, UCLA alumnus Mr. Ned Marr, commissioned this original 2 story, 11 room residence for
his personal use. Cost of construction at the time was reported as $16,000. The home boasts a colorful his-
tory with several notable owners. In the early 1940’s, 10431 was the residence of world famous fashion
designer Oleg Cassini and his movie star wife, Gene Tierney. Later, it became the home of the renowned
industrialist, philanthropist and art collector, Dr. Armand Hammer. Dr. Hammer, one time president of
Occidental Petroleum lived there with wife Francis and the home remained in the Hammer estate until it was
sold to its current owners in 1998.
ARCHITECTURE: W.F. Ruck was a prominent area architect known for a diverse body of work. His
designs were often featured in the LA times and included personal residences, a civic center opera house,
apartments, industrial buildings and a restaurant. His design for the Washington Boulevard School for
Crippled Children, completed in 1937, was chosen by the Royal Institute of British Architects of London and
incorporated in a permanent collection of contemporary architecture. Another local architect, Walter Meyer
can be credited with the recent restoration and expansion of 10431 Wyton. Mr. Meyer headed an extensive
2 year project for the current owners that enlarged and modernized the residence while taking care to pre-
serve its original design and character. As a result, 10431 still appears much as it did 80 years ago.
