1.   NEIGHBORHOOD BLITZ – ASPHALT REPAIRS
The Bureau of Street Services is at it again!  You’ve got potholes, and they’re ready to fill them. It’s time for the second round of the Neighborhood Council Blitz.
Twice a year, the Bureau of Street Services sets out on its Neighborhood Council Blitz to bring asphalt repairs to every neighborhood, above and beyond their daily work performed citywide in response to service requests.
If you are aware of any street issues in Holmby Westwood that need repair, you may submit a request to Dana at hwpoa@aol.com .  Dana will compile a list and submit it to the City.  The date of the work in Westwood is scheduled for March 19, 2014.
Your request should include your name, address and one of the choices below:
Pavement Preservation1. Potholes/Popouts
2. Eroded surface
3. Bump/Hump/Uneven
4. Resurface
Sidewalks

The addresses of the repair locations will be sent to the City for inspection.  It is unknown how many can be done successfully in one day until they are inspected.
Send your information to Dana no later than February 18, 2014 to: hwpoa@aol.com
2.   Movie Premiere – Upcoming Street Closures
The Lego Movie at the Village Theatre will premiere on Saturday, February 1st.  Beginning at 8:00 AM on Friday, January 31 until midnight on February 1, the following streets will be closed:
·         Southbound closure of Broxton Ave. between Weyburn and Le Conte
·         An alley closure south of Le Conte from Broxton west to the alley

Access will be allowed from Westwood for parkers in the Le Conte parking lot. The curb lane and north side of the sidewalk of Weyburn and Broxton west to the alley will close on February 1st from 6 am to midnight.  If you have questions or concerns regarding this event please contact 15/40 Productions directly at 310-848-1150.
3.   Earthquake Preparedness – from Mayor Eric Garcetti
Twenty years ago this month, our city was jolted awake by the devastating Northridge Earthquake. While we cannot predict the future, we can be ready for it. That's why I appointed Dr. Lucy Jones, one of the world's leading seismologists, to advise me on how LA can prepare for the Big One.
I'm pushing City Hall to do everything it can, but I need you to do your part. Will you take the #ReadyLA Pledge right now so that you'll be prepared?
Each of us needs to have the water, food, and other supplies necessary to take care of our families for a few days when the Big One hits.
Don't put it off. Take the #ReadyLA Pledge now and learn how to prepare.  I'm counting on you. Together, we can make LA the safest city in the world.
Eric Garcetti
Mayor
ADDITIONAL NOTE:
HWPOA has an ongoing disaster preparedness program.  We hope you are participating.  For additional information, please contact Dana at hwpoa@aol.com

 5.  Please Clean Up After Your Dogs
We continue to receive reports from residents who have said that dog owners have not been responsible in cleaning up after their dogs.  In some instances, the dog owners fail to clean up entirely.  In other instances, the owner will clean up with a plastic bag, but then leave the plastic bag in the same spot.
If you own a dog, please clean up after your dog, and be sure to tell everyone who walks your dog to do the same (this includes family members, dog walkers, housekeepers, nannies, etc.).  Thank you.
6.  HWPOA COMMUNICATION AND AD POLICY
Please direct all comments, questions or issues regarding the HOLMBY NEWS tohwpoa@aol.com and not to holmbywestwood@yahoogroups.com.
Residents have complained about too many HWPOA emails during the week so I, as Moderator, try to limit HWPOA messages during the week, ads in particular, to posting in the weekly NEWS.  Emergency type situations such as coyote sightings, lost and found pets, traffic alerts and similar emergency type situations will continue to be published during the week as received.
This policy will be published each week preceding the Resident Ads section of the HOLMBY NEWS as a reminder of the policy, how to place the ads and why the policy was established.  There is always an exception considered if needed for an emergency type ad situation.
When placing an ad, please send to hwpoa@aol.com for the HOLMBY NEWS Moderator to review.  The receipt of the ad will be confirmed.  Responses to ads should be directed to the ad placer, not to HWPOA.  Do not respond to the holmbywestwood Yahoo email address.
Thank you,
Dana, HOLMBY NEWS moderator/editor
