3. Halloween Safety Tips
From the LAPD:
If your house is one of the many homes participating in the Halloween festivities, turn on your porch light so children will know it is all right to visit your home. If you are placing a Jack-O-Lantern on your porch, place a glow stick inside instead of a candle. Hand out only commercially wrapped candy. Never invite children into your home and ensure that your pets are secured and can’t charge little ones at your door (even if you believe they won’t bite there is still the potential for it. Besides, some kids are scared of dogs). Also, maintain clear walkways that are free from obstruction. And if using candles, keep them far away from the path of children. Finally, immediately notify law enforcement of any suspicious activity. But most importantly, enjoy all the fun!!
4. HWPOA COMMUNICATION AND AD POLICY
Please direct all comments, questions or issues regarding the HOLMBY NEWS to hwpoa@aol.com and not to holmbywestwood@yahoogroups.com.
Residents have complained about too many HWPOA emails during the week so I, as Moderator, try to limit HWPOA messages during the week, ads in particular, to posting in the weekly NEWS. Emergency type situations such as coyote sightings, lost and found pets, traffic alerts and similar emergency type situations will continue to be published during the week as received.
This policy will be published each week preceding the Resident Ads section of the HOLMBY NEWS as a reminder of the policy, how to place the ads and why the policy was established. There is always an exception considered if needed for an emergency type ad situation.
When placing an ad, please send to hwpoa@aol.com for the HOLMBY NEWS Moderator to review. The receipt of the ad will be confirmed. Responses to ads should be directed to the ad placer, not to HWPOA. Do not respond to the holmbywestwood Yahoo email address.
Thank you,Dana, HOLMBY NEWS moderator/editor

DID YOU LOSE A PET SKUNK?
On Friday Oct. 25 at about 9 pm we discovered a skunk rooting up the turf in our backyard (on Loring between Warner and Thayer). Our lights were on thus we got a good view. It was a beautiful animal with a fluffy extended tail and a snow white back. After watching it about 5 minutes we pounded on the window and it went away. The next morning we found considerable damage to our turf. There was no noticeable skunk odor. Because of its beauty and the absence of odor we speculate that it was a pet skunk.
