1.  HWPOA BOARD MEETING
On Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 8:00 PM, the HWPOA Board of Directors will hold it’s monthly meeting at Belmont Village (10475 Wilshire Blvd.). Members of the community are welcome to attend, though space is limited. Please let us know if you plan to attend, by emailing Dana at hwpoa@aol.com.
2.  EARTHQUAKE PRESENTATION VIDEOS
For those of you that were unable to attend the recent Disaster Preparedness presentation, we have uploaded videos of the presentation to YouTube:
Part 1 – https://youtu.be/dxLoVloKvyw
Susan Reuben (HWPOA Vice President) discusses our neighborhood preparedness plans; Lt. Mark Akahoshi (LAFD Battalion Chief) discusses earthquake preparedness and the CERT training program.
Part 2 –  https://youtu.be/8xaTlJEhM5s
Debbie Weiser (Geologist) discusses earthquake hazards in West Los Angeles, the “Big One”, and what to do before, during, and after an earthquake.
3.  CERT TRAINING MAKE-UP CLASSES
The first CERT class this week went very well – thanks to everyone who attended. If you’re still interested in participating, you may join us next week (6:30 PM on Wed., Sept. 9 at Saint Albans Church, 580 Hilgard).
If you missed the first class or will miss any of the other classes, you may attend a make-up class as follows:
  • Go to www.CERT-LA.com and click on “Find a CERT class” on the left side.
  • Click on “Eventbrite”. This will give all the locations in the city where other CERT classes are being held.
  • Click on a convenient location and the class schedule will open up. Be sure to look for the appropriate make-up class (Class 1, Class 2, etc.), as each class covers different topics.
  • Residents should call the trainer just to confirm the date of the class.
Residents can find the Operational Area Make Up Class Form on the CERT-LA.com site, fill it out and have their trainer sign it to get credit. You must attend all classes to receive a “Certificate of Completion”.
4.  UCLA MARCHING BAND PRACTICE SCHEDULE
Dear Neighbors,
The UCLA Marching Band holds a camp every year before the start of the Fall Quarter. This intensive training period is their opportunity to get to know one another and perfect their routines.
This fall, Band Camp starts on September 14 in the UCLA Intramural Field. Practice will continue until Wednesday, September 23, with practice hours ranging from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Similar to last year, there will be two evening practices on September 21 and 22 until 9:00 p.m. There will also be freshman and full band practice on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
During the rest of the season, rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and Fridays from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. As always, you are more than welcome to come and watch the marching band rehearse.
It is our intent to be a “good neighbor” and monitor sound and other campus activities.  Should you require additional information about this or future events, please do not hesitate to give me a call at (310) 794-6830.
Sincerely,
Marco Perez
