Emergency Preparedness

Los Angeles Community Emergency Preparedness Program

The City of Los Angeles is extremely concerned that its residential communities are totally unprepared for a disaster. It may be 2-3 weeks before any community receives emergency responder assistance. Therefore, Holmby-Westwood Property Owners’ Association (HWPOA) is now gearing up to implement the city-wide recommended emergency preparedness program. Please volunteer to help our community accomplish the city’s plan as soon as possible. The plan includes:
  1. Creating our own community wide Emergency Preparedness Plan
  2. Organizing community wide communication between residents, HWPOA, police, our local fire department, the Red Cross, and city offices before, during and after a disaster
  3. Organizing a health professional team and triage location to treat injuries. (If you have professional health experience, please get involved to help)
  4. Organizing a comprehensive plan for a gathering place where residents can receive help following a disaster
  5. Organizing a comprehensive plan for shelters for those residents who cannot return to their homes following a disaster
Volunteer committees are now being established for each of the above areas. Please contact Susan Reuben, Vice President, Holmby-Westwood Property Owners’ Association to get involved. E-mail: susanjreuben@yahoo.com or by phone: 310-271-6700.
**Participation is open to members and non-members of HWPOA .**

# 1.  Street Lights & Copper Wire Theft

There have been several recent incidents where the copper wire from local street lights has been stolen.  We have notified the Council office about the incidents and are working to address the problem.  Please be on the lookout for suspicious activity around lamp-posts.

# 2.  Closure of East Wilshire to NB 405 On-Ramp

The northbound 405 on-ramp from eastbound Wilshire Bl. closure is expected to begin August 22 and last 90 days.  The ramp from eastbound Wilshire onto the 405 north will be torn down starting Aug. 22 to make way for a new ramp, which will fly over exiting traffic.

# 4.  HWPOA COMMUNICATION AND AD POLICY

Please direct all comments, questions or issues regarding the HOLMBY NEWS to hwpoa@aol.com and not to the holmbywestwood's Yahoo address.

Residents have complained about too many HWPOA emails during the week so I, as Moderator, try to limit HWPOA messages during the week, ads in particular, to posting in the weekly NEWS.  Emergency type situations such as coyote sightings, lost and found pets, traffic alerts and similar emergency type situations will continue to be published during the week as received.

This policy will be published each week preceding the Resident Ads section of the HOLMBY NEWS as a reminder of the policy, how to place the ads and why the policy was established.  There is always an exception considered if needed for an emergency type ad situation.

When placing an ad, please send to hwpoa@aol.com for the HOLMBY NEWS Moderator to review.  The receipt of the ad will be confirmed.  Responses to ads should be directed to the ad placer, not to HWPOA.  Do not respond to the holmbywestwood Yahoo email address.  Ads will be run in the next HOLMBY NEWS via our Yahoo group.

Thank you,

Dana, the HOLMBY NEWS moderator/editor
