1. SEEKING NEW HWPOA BOARD MEMBERS

Join the Board of Directors of Holmby-Westwood Property Owners Association

The Board is seeking Holmby Westwood residents to volunteer to serve as a Director for 1 year. We meet on the second Tuesday of every month except for August and December. We ask only that you be a paid-up member of the Association and have an interest in maintaining and improving the quality of life as well as the historic and architectural integrity we have all come to know and enjoy.

You will work with many neighbors who serve on the Board, some who have served for many years. This is a way to help your community, to work with city officials and departments, to plan events, and to support the protections in place today.

The Holmby-Westwood community is over 80 years old and preservation, livability, and schools are key to its residential value. Serving on our Board of Directors is a way to safeguard one of the largest investments you will make in your lifetime.

We want the next generation to be able to carry on what we have fought to protect for these many years. Holmby-Westwood Property Owners Association is a highly respected association throughout the city and, with your involvement, we hope that will continue indefinitely.

Our meetings are held at Belmont Village, Wilshire at Warner Ave., 8 - 9:30 PM, free parking included. Our committees include: Security, Traffic, History and Architecture, Architectural Supervising Committee, HPOZ, 4th of July event, Emergency Preparedness, Filming (in the neighborhood), Welcoming committee, WLAPD liaison, Local Schools Committee.

Please, contact Dana Glenn, our Office Manager, and tell her that you want to join our Board. You will have an extremely worthwhile experience while giving back to a community that has remained highly desirable for many years. That did not happen accidentally. It happened with a commitment from hundreds of our neighbors over 80 years!

2. COMMUNITY POLICE ADVISORY BOARD MEETING

The West Los Angeles Community-Police Advisory Board (WLA C-PAB) is a volunteer organization committed to work in conjunction with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in order to foster a partnership to reduce crime, reduce the fear of crime, improve the quality of life and ensure the safe and expeditious flow of traffic. The role of the WLA C-PAB includes advising the WLA Area Commanding Officer regarding crime, traffic and quality of life issues and the dissemination of information back and forth between the LAPD and the community.

3. WESTWOOD BLVD. CLOSURE ON MARCH 23

This coming Sunday, Westwood Blvd. will be closed to celebrate Norooz, the Persian New Year.

DATE: Sunday, March 23, 2014.

TIME: Festival hours: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.

WHAT: Full closure of Westwood Blvd between Ohio and Wilkins from 5 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Holmby Westwood Property Owners Association will honor Zev Yaroslavsky for his 40 years of service to the Westside as our Councilman from 1975 - 1994 and County Supervisor from 1994 to the present. This promises to be a wonderful evening as we honor a man who has given so much to our community.

So, save the date!!! More information will follow.

5. HWPOA COMMUNICATION AND AD POLICY

Please direct all comments, questions or issues regarding the HOLMBY NEWS tohwpoa@aol.com and not to holmbywestwood@yahoogroups.com.

Residents have complained about too many HWPOA emails during the week so I, as Moderator, try to limit HWPOA messages during the week, ads in particular, to posting in the weekly NEWS. Emergency type situations such as coyote sightings, lost and found pets, traffic alerts and similar emergency type situations will continue to be published during the week as received.

This policy will be published each week preceding the Resident Ads section of the HOLMBY NEWS as a reminder of the policy, how to place the ads and why the policy was established. There is always an exception considered if needed for an emergency type ad situation.

When placing an ad, please send to hwpoa@aol.com for the HOLMBY NEWS Moderator to review. The receipt of the ad will be confirmed. Responses to ads should be directed to the ad placer, not to HWPOA. Do not respond to the holmbywestwood Yahoo email address.

Housekeeper wanted to work 3 afternoons per week (preferably Monday, Wednesday, Friday) or two full days per week (Monday/Tuesday, Friday).
